U.S. Army Reserve COLONEL, Jim Engstrand Announces Candidacy for Texas 36th US Congressional District

Jim Engstrand of Seabrook, Texas has filed with the Federal Election Commission as a Republican candidate for congress in the newly formed Texas 36th Congressional District.   Currently this district includes the Southeastern half of Harris County, as well as all of Chambers, Orange, Newton, Jasper, Hardin, Tyler, Liberty and Polk Counties as shown on www.engstrandforcongress.com .

Mr. Engstrand is a twenty-four year veteran of the Army Reserve and National Guard. He is currently a COLONEL (rising from the rank of Private to his current rank of COLONEL) in the Medical Service Corps serving with the Army Medical Command in Texas as a traditional reservist.   In addition he is a small business owner who specializes in defense consulting, emergency preparedness and energy event planning.   Mr. and Mrs. Engstrand have three children, two of whom also serve in the military, and one granddaughter.  COLONEL Engstrand was deployed to Iraq as the Deputy Division Surgeon to Multi-National Division South in Basra, Iraq as well as serving as the Senior Medical Liaison to the Theater Trauma Center in Balad, Iraq.

COLONEL Engstrand has over ten years of military emergency medical response planning and served on the National Guard Bureau Joint Surgeons staff during hurricane IKE’s evacuation operations in 2008.  During that time he was involved in coordinating and planning for the evacuation of special needs patients from the east Texas area of operations.

Mr. Engstrand grew up on a dairy farm and is deeply rooted in the agricultural industry.  He recognizes the importance of the ranching and lumber industry in the 36th and will work tirelessly to eliminate the stifling regulatory measures promulgated by the Obama Administration which are choking the ability of these vital industries to compete internationally.

Mr. Engstrand is an entrepreneur and believes that the current Administration has crippled Texas energy production refinement capabilities that have had a direct and negative impact on jobs in East Texas and the Gulf regions.  He expresses this will be one of his top priorities when he gets to congress to eliminate the Environmental Protection Agencies restrictive energy policies so that these jobs will return to East Texas and the Gulf region.

Mr. Engstrand believes that in order for Texas, and the United States, to create American jobs in a global economy, it is absolutely vital that we reduce our corporate tax rate from the highest in the world to among the lowest. In addition, our tax code must be simplified and top rates lowered so that small businesses can once again become the engine of growth for our economy.  Colonel Engstrand supports efforts to actually reduce spending at the Federal level (not merely reducing the staggering rate of increases proposed each year) and will make the repeal of ObamaCare priority one upon his arrival in Congress.

Mr. Engstrand believes life begins at conception and that we have an obligation to defend the rights of the defenseless.  He is a supporter of adoption not abortion. He is a Christian, Constitutional, and Common-Sense Conservative who has worked tirelessly across America for the conservative cause.

Engstrand’s campaign manager, Cynthia Werner, stated that Engstrand filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission this past summer and has established a campaign staff. The Engstrand campaign plans to file on or about December 1, 2011, the necessary paperwork with the Republican Party of Texas to secure a place on the ballot for the GOP primary election which is scheduled for March 6, 2012.

The Engstrand Campaign plans to accompany this filing with another tour of the 36th district in December.  Colonel Engstrand has already spent considerable time organizing local grassroots and Tea Party activists and will continue to build a “bottom-up” campaign organization. He fervently believes that the rise of a “Political Class” of life-time politicians has resulted in legislation and policies which benefit the connected few at the expense of the many. As the type of citizen-legislator the Founders envisioned, Colonel Engstrand is dedicated to earning the support of and representing every voter in the 36th District regardless of their economic status, or their ability to procure political favors.
